      • Name1,
  • There is already a large amount of words captured in other Kelabit-English dictionary like the online dictionary at Kelabit Net [1] from Mathew Amster's, and Robert Blust's work . The OKC also has a wealth of words in Kelabit in their multitude of spellings (See sample) from our years of chatting there since April 2004. So, could you help in putting these into the Kelabit Wiki as a start?

Policies

Such a big word that.. what can we call these things that we need to agree upfront like.. Please add any items you feel we should get consensus on before we proceed.

  • Should we keep the forum restricted to bonafide Kelabits or registered users only or open to the WWW? Discuss.
    • I personally prefer to keep it restricted. Access to be tied to the user database of OKC [2] SRajaDita 12:21, 29 July 2007 (CEST)
  • Should we focus only on building an encyclopedia and leave the dictionary project to RURUM? Discuss.
    • Can someone get an update what RURUM is already doing? This project could possibly feed that work. SRajaDita 12:21, 29 July 2007 (CEST)
  • We are using the English version of the MediaWiki (the Wiki engine), and the menus you see on the left are fixed. The other option is to select Bahasa Malaysia. Discuss.
    • I would rather use English. The modern Malay words developed for all this new technology just sounds too foreign to me. I mean, is it me or does """Laman Utama""" not sound like a shopping mall to you? SRajaDita 12:21, 29 July 2007 (CEST)
  • Then there is the question of what language to use for the ""Categories"". This is a key thing for managing/indexing content in Wikis. The test site I've created so far uses English for both the content headings and categories. Just because I don't know half the Kelabit word to use. Like what is pronunciation in Kelabit for instance. Discuss.
    • I vote for English for the categories. Because it's not easily undone once you've made a mistake. I think it'll get messy especially as we spell words in various ways. SRajaDita 12:21, 29 July 2007 (CEST)
  • One suggestion was putting people information like a family tree with bio summary like the ones I've put under Category:People. See Idris Jala Discuss
    • I have the Ulung Palang family tree that I could put up if there is no objections about putting this information in public space. It's currently held online in a non-searchable site. It's not at all complete so it'll be great if more people can edit it.. The other option (which Wikipedia adopts) is for people to update their own profile in their user pages and only maintain bios of notable Kelabits (public figures like our ketua kampong etc), and historical figures in the main Wiki SRajaDita 12:21, 29 July 2007 (CEST)

Content

What would you like to see in the encyclopedia? ""Discuss.""

  1. Here are just some of the possibilities....local flora and fauna found in the Kelabit Highlands, our history, Kelabit individuals (including those that have assimilated into the Kelabit culture and society), places, poetry, music, folklore, dictionary, quotes, proverbs, jokes, current events.... Action Plan

How do we proceed from here?
